We wander down the hill from our hotel into Portoferraio to explore the old town and the harbor. We first pass the harbor with its ferry terminal, serious fishing vessels, and lots of pleasure craft.
Harbor
The edge of the harbor is lined with shops and restaurants, several with great inspirational signage.
Good ideas
From the harbor, we pass through a gate in the wall to the old town, where we walk up to Forte Stella, watching over the entrance to the harbor.

Views from the fort
From the fort, we walk toward the castle, passing the house Napoleon live in during his 300 days on Elba.

We walk along the outside castle wall and then descend back down to the harbor in search of lunch (no castle entry for us today, lunch is calling).

Arriving at the port
It's been an interesting historical walk looking at the modern shops and restaurants of the port next to the old town and the history of Napoleon.
