Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens

For a change of pace, I'm off to the zoo.  The Saigon zoo was established in 1865 and is home to over a hundred species of mammals, reptiles, and birds.  In addition, the botanical garden holds many rare orchids and ornamental plants.  Also on the grounds is the Museum of Vietnamese History with over 25,000 historical artifacts.

It's been a while since I've been to a zoo and I start with the large animals (easy to find).

Then, I stroll through some of the smaller birds, reptiles, and other features.

 Small folks

The zoo is packed with people and, in addition to the animals, there are lots of activities and rides to enjoy.

And, it's allowed to play and soak in the water!

Water fun

In the center of the park is a stage with a variety of shows.  I first see a group of children singing, then an acrobat who juggles while balancing on a platform she builds on a ball.

 Entertainment on the stage

And, while I didn't go into the Botanical Gardens, the grounds of the zoo are beautifully landscaped.

And, there are statues of animals who are no longer available to be seen at the zoo.

Extinct creatures

I need to put the city zoo (wherever I happen to be) on my list more often!
