Wandering Around Amsterdam

We arrive in Amsterdam, drop our luggage at the hotel, and wander into the city.  Amsterdam began as a small fishing village in the 12th century and has grown into one of the most important ports in the world.  The famous canals date from the 17th century and weave through the city as we cross and recross them in our exploration.

 First sights in Amsterdam

We reach the flower market, stroll through, and purchase a few tulip bulbs to take home.

Across from the flower shops (and scattered throughout Amsterdam) are fabulous cheese shops which we wander into and admire the displays.

We continue to explore the pedestrian (and bicycle) friendly streets of this welcoming city, filling the afternoon with new sights of the town.
