Food and Dining in Olbia

We eat really well in all of Italy.  However, we are truly impressed with the variety and quality of food we find in Sardinia.

We previously mentioned the Burger Bar and we enjoy it so much our first day that we go back again a few days later.

Burger, fish & chips, wine, and view

Similarly, we stumble on Trattoria Rossi while poking around, it looks interesting, and we come back twice for dinner.  But first, we go to the local Simply grocery store for water, wine, bread, cheese, and sliced meats and find a real treat. We first discovered Simply, a French chain, on St. Martin and went there also for water, wine, and sandwich makings.  The Simply in Olbia is a lot larger and has fresh everything!

 Produce

 Wine and pasta

 Seafood and meat

 Bread and cheese

But, enough drooling in the grocery store.  Let's go where they prepare it and bring it to the table for us:   Trattoria Rossi.

We have two dinners at Trattoria Rosi (we like the first one so much, we make a reservation for the next night on our way out), with the main theme of fish:  carpaccio of sea bass, branzino with leeks, sea bream with potatoes and tomatoes, squid ink pasta, mussels/clams in white wine and tomato, various octopus, all served with the fabulous Sardinian flat bread.

View from our table at Trattoria Rossi

Deviled octopus, sea bass carpaccio

Stew of mussels and clams with toasted garlic bread, Sardinian flat bread

Branzino with leeks, squid ink pasta with lemon and gray mullet dried eggs

We are overwhelmed with the quality and variety of the food and need to come back again, possibly many times, to explore the other culinary opportunities that Sardinia has to offer!
